The Radio Revolution

With thousands of people joining new music services such as Spotify or listening to short radio shows on sites like Mixcloud and Spreaker, where does the future of internet radio lie?

It doesn't seem likely that internet radio will become extinct any time soon because of the 'Rise Of The Smartphones' (that should totally be a movie). However, with the growing popularity of Spotify ,which is often linked with social networks, streaming music is spreading fast and gaining momentum. Some people will no longer listen to their favourite internet radio station as the giant library of music is now waiting on their desktop, ready to be clicked on...but wait! Internet Radios must have an answer to this, surely? Websites and services such as iTunes radio, TuneIn Radio and Radionomy have hundreds of internet radio stations and we mustn't forget that playlists and radio are different things. 

Radios make you feel so much more involved with the music, the artists and the community of radio hosts. Consequently, the internet takes another strike at internet radio: Spreaker and Mixcloud. But is this actually an attack on internet radio or just a revolution of it? These websites are giving people the freedom of Spotify as well as the feel of internet radio. Once again reinventing how we listen to music. 
So, what are we, Just Another Radio, going to do about this? Firstly, we are going to improve our radio as much as we possibly can. Creating a huge variety of rock, indie, alternative and urban tracks we hope to appeal to a wide audience and hopefully more people will appreciate these different styles of music. The next few weeks will see a major improvement in the radio! Secondly, we are going to embrace the revolution. We are trying to link our Top 10 shows with Spotify, create the Ultimate Playlist on Spotify and creating live shows on Spreaker or Mixcloud. We will simply link all our accounts back to here, Just Another Radio. Internet Radio is going to better than ever, and we hope you can stay tuned in for the journey.

Top 10 Chart Comparison (26th and 4th)

Somebody That I Used to know has claimed its 5 week reign at Number 1 on many charts, and finally reach Number 1 for a second time on our charts (after Indie week)! There are some great tunes returning and replacing other songs such as 'Ruby - Kaiser Chiefs', 'You are a Tourist - Death Cab for Cutie' and 'Take Me Out - Franz Ferdinand'.

The rest of the charts is fairly similar as all the songs are holding on strong, although, some shuffling about has occurred. Florence + The Machine has moved to Number 3 from Number 1, 'The Wolves - Ben Howard' is gaining speed towards the Number 1 spot, now at Number 5 and we have a brand new song by Jason Mraz at Number 4! I hope you enjoyed those charts, and the comparison between the 4th and 11th March coming soon!

iLL-iteracy - Up-and-Coming Artist

iLL-iteracy are bringing rap

 to Just Another Radio.
Only rarely, will you  find a new rap artists that are true to rap. iLL-iteracy are one of those artists. As often as the phrase is used today, iLL-iteracy are genuinely a fresh, distinctive group.  You can download their album 'The Ensembly Line' from their website and also check out their 'iLL-it beatz' that have samples which are free to use. 


Each member of iLL-iteracy have 'developed affinities for music early on in their lives' and this passion sets iLL-iteracy apart from other artists. Also, from reading their biography and listening to their music you can realise how strong each members relationships are and the amount of work that they put into their music as a group. 

'After school, each of the members would gather around a computer, a base-model plastic computer microphone, and a technologically inferior recording program just for kicks.  There was no mission in mind; no money-making scheme...  There was just music.'

  We truly appreciate the fact that they do not aim for money. When money becomes the sole purpose of doing something that requires heart, it won't work. iLL-iteracy do not follow other 'trends' because (anyone who uses Twitter will know) trends aren't permanent. Real music, however, is. 

  

        'The members of iLL-iteracy are Scott Dudley - "Chris Prythm", Kirk Dudley - "Speek Eazy", Corey English - "WiLL Spitwell", and George Trent -   "Young Observe".  Their sound is inspirational but far from ignorantly blissful and their musical arsenal ranges from upbeat anthems to thought provoking, more conscious selections.'

I believe that iLL-iteracy will get far, they've said themselves 'the motivation that pushes them harder and fuels the hunger that so many others lack'. They are aiming for what they deserve through their dedication and hard-work. We feel so privileged to support them and hope that us helping them now is just a first step for them to achieve as much as they can.

Top 10 Chart Comparison (19th & 26th February)

So, after the Indie Week, Smash Mouth surprisingly grabbed the top spot. Its a fun song, and I hope it was nostalgic for you Shrek fans! Florence + The Machine has taken the number 1 spot this week and 'All Star' has dropped to number 5. 'Tongue Tied' is still strong in the Top 5. Also in the Top 5, are three new entries: 'Take Me Out', 'Smile Like You Mean It' and 'Little Talks'. Little Talks is likely to stay strong in the charts as it is a new, awesome song. Ben Howard has jumped back into the charts once again with his widely popular single 'The Wolves'.

Deeper Upper - Up-and-Coming Artist

We've recently added Deeper Upper to our radio and Up-and-Coming artists section. They are an indie band that are inconceivably awesome and bursting with creativity. Each song is an individual and it's really great that we can add them to our Up-and-Coming section.

Since originally starting in Lithuania, Deeper Upper are becoming rapidly know by people across the world, including us! In what they call 'sonic chaos' their original music ideas and inspiration really gives the band a unique sound that a listener can appreciate. In songs such as 'In the Sands of a Desert' the drums, guitar and synth effortlessly fit together however, unlike other rock/alternative songs, it's the creativity that shines through. The lyrics. The riffs. The sound effects. All these components generate the elegance in how the song is produced. We believe it all comes together in their music video (below).

Their successes range from being featured on many Indie blogs (notably "Itʻs All Indie") and they have been included in the Top 30 of an Indie Lithuanian website called www.music.lt (where they have been rated by the listeners)! We know that with more support and with more and more people spreading the word, Deeper Upper will be a name you will be hearing a lot in the future.
