Maurice - Up-and-Coming Artist - The Pop Artist with Real Talent

There is no denying that Maurice Rabsatt has talent; and at an early age people had picked up on this. Since 2005, Maurice has had many successes with getting his music into film an TV. With four songs on the 'Derailed' film soundtrack - here - this 'fuelled his passion' and since then Maurice has received even more (worthy) recognition. His story and achievements are truly inspirational and we can see him as a successful pop artist in the future.

His single 'Baby' was featured in the Quentin Tarantino film 'The Protector' and he has also sung in front of thousands of people in the NBA playoff's in 2006. As well as this, his music has been used on a Spike TV show called 'Afro Samurai' (featuring Samuel L. Jackson). Now, working more on his new singles, we hope to see Maurice get his own success in the music market in the near future. 

Maurice grew up in St. Thomas Virgin Islands, where he states 'I grew up in the Caribbean and when hurricanes hit the island the power would go out completely, that meant no cable or other distractions so I started listening to the radio a ton and that’s where it began with the music. I started off singing in the choir at church also, so I was exposed to it (music) by default.'. With a voice that is already so suited to the pop music industry, Maurice blends in some Caribbean culture from the main reggae and calypso influences he has had. We found that this Caribbean/Pop infusion makes Maurice stand out as amongst other pop artists and we respect how he has built up his tracks from his culture to  before trying more mainstream ideas to 'give his island family something to relate to'. 

We had the pleasure of asking Maurice some more interview questions to find out some more about him: 

What are your plans for the near future? 

Concerning the future I intend to release 1-3 more singles to continue to build up my buzz. That will determine really when we will release the entire project so stay tuned! I plan on starting my radio promotion in the college market. I think it’s a realistic avenue for me as a new artist. I’m excited to experience this in hopes that it may lead to some college shows!

What led you to become a musician? Who are your main influences?

Music was always something that affected me emotionally. To elaborate, I could be having the worst day and if I put on my favorite song and it doesn’t matter what I went through. Brandy Norwood, Maroon 5, Usher, Adele and the entire Jackson Family!

If you could collaborate with any artist (deceased or living) who would it be?

If I could collaborate, I would love to collaborate with both Brandy and Adam Levine. They’re such different artists that I’m curious to see what sound would come out of our fusion, and of course the late Michael Jackson would have been a humbling and honorable experience.

What has been the best part and hardest part of your career so far? 

The best part and hardest part is being independent. With a major label comes major help, so it’s less stressful on the artist. There are more hands in the pocket with a major but there’s always gives and take in this industry. Not sure where I will end up but I trust that God will guide me like He has been doing already.

Is there a piece of advice that you have stuck to or would give to someone who wanted to pursue a career in music?

Don’t Stop working! With work comes development so never break for long periods of time. Stay consistent in whatever it is you want to do in life.

Mark Cashin & the Lil Hussys (MC&LH) - Up-and-Coming artist + Interview

Our latest Up-and-Coming artist, Mark Cashin & The Lil' Hussy's (MC&LH)

As any music enthusiast will know, a song becomes a great song when it carries a meaningful message; this is possibly why MC&LH's hit songs have such an appeal to the rock audiences. We feel that 'Ordinary People', 'Black 'n' Blue' and  'California' are some of their stand-out tracks on their album Cashology as their charisma and talent seem to effortlessly combine to create these infectiously catchy and dynamic rock songs. They bring back the sound of rock and we're looking forward to their third album coming out in 2012.Although they are becoming increasingly connected with the global media industry, we felt that they deserved somte more recognition and to help spread the word we will be playing some of their songs on Just Another Radio! 

The interview is a really interesting read and tells you so much about the bands roots, ambitions and influences as well as some of the main highlights in their musical careers. We had the privilege of being able to ask them a few questions, and here is how they responded:

Who / what inspired you to be a band?

We are all driven by; similar things in life. For me (Mark) I’d say, to make music that everyone can sing along to, 

music that has meaning, to be different from everyone else & of course to make some money along the way would

 also be nice & enjoy what we do, while we are doing it!

For me playing with many bands throughout the years – I guess it was just the right time after recording my first 

album ‘Bed of Light’ which was primarily written while I was in recovery from a near fatal car accident & the genesis

 of Mark Cashin & The Lil Hussys began. We all came together to share these works of art with the world & create

 music, a new sound that people will like, we hope & so far so good. The band members all come from different

 backgrounds & have also played with various bands and are all very passionate about what we do writing catchy 

songs & playing our music. 

'This is a way of life for us, not just a job or hobby. Every second of our lives, we eat, 

live, breathe and sleep music. So becoming a band was just naturally the next step.'

Which musical artists inspire you & what are your main influences?

(Mark) My influences are derived from many different areas - my music influences do stem from bands as: The

 Police, Super Tramp, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Ozzy then to the punk styles of The Clash & The Ramones mainly. 

Where I also enthrall myself into the grunge movement as well with 2 years during the 90's I was performing as the

 front man for The Australian Pearl Jam Show heaps of fun, packed out venues & a totally amazing experience 

which all has added to developing of my songwriting craft taking into consideration really I am a drummer. 

My influences have evoked that colorful & diverse melodic foundation extending into the present day of driving Mark 

Cashin & The Lil Hussys music & performances into a global audience. Commitment, passion & the belief in what 

you do also has a major impact in the essence of who you become & who we actually are known to be in a band 

sense of Mark Cashin & The Lil Hussys.To rehash on influences they can come from anywhere: abstract concepts

I have in my mind or they could be simply be an everyday random melody brain attack. So you have to keep on going,

 never give in, no matter what & use every life experience turning a negative into a positive works well too.

What do you get up to in a general band session? Who does what etc.?

Obviously we all have our part to play here, while focusing on always providing a new way to deliver the next show the 

sound of our songs & the performance so it differs slightly to the last show we have done. Compiling new set lists & 

working off these allows everyone in the band to contribute to the next show & ensuring that we cater for the venues 

vibes & who we may be playing with. ‘Practice makes perfect ummmm- take two’ haha…with our third album in pre

 production now for release later in 2012 practice is the key always practicing & performing the songs – capturing

 the vibe how they sound on the albums & iron out anything that doesn’t sound like it belongs – slotting in new music.

 Band sessions are pretty much a weeknight thing – bash our set out & tweaking the songs instrumentally & vocally 

to keep tight & diverse & do it all again the next week LIVE.

What would you like to do with the band in the future?

Definitely international touring – we would love to actually leave our county & visit different countries & cultures 

introducing our music to new audiences by performing live. Get over to play in USA pick up our tour that is still 

on hold until we get an invite to perform or the US Embassy will allow us to enter America just to play our music.

 I can see the band playing some major shows & venues rockin’ the world & also performing with some brilliant 

bands & artists. If we can do it here in Oz we can do it anywhere. Continuing to create great new albums & 

showcase globally.

What are your best memories as a band?

There are a few: Meeting some amazing people, meeting fans who flew out from USA to our CASHOLOGY 

album launch here in Australia, touring, the support of our fans & friends around the world, rockin the venues

 & being asked back to play again that’s always a good thing, the global media interest we have picked up 

along the way radio & press is outstanding & continuing to strengthen our relationships as a bandwith the 

media. Performing acoustically in studio on commercial radio & having a classic top live to air interview

 hmmm – t’was a funny day. Playing with some of Australia’s most iconic artists this has been a real honor

 for us. Lastly but not least - I'd say being selected to play at the annual event at Sydney Town Hall for the

Homeless – Homeless Connect, it’s heart wrenching day & homelessness it could happen to anyone.

Which is about the people, by the people & for the people as underneath it all we all are just ordinary people.''

White Powder Gold - Up-and-Coming artist

White Powder Gold pack bundles of energy, enthusiasm and nothing but rock into every song. Their singles 'Can't Stop Me Now' , 'RockNRolla' and the 'Can't Stop Me Now' remix by Lewi White, will be played on Just Another Radio from this week. 

White Powder Gold are a new indie/rock band based in London.  They have been described as having an 'indie style with an urban twist' and we absolutely love this blend of genres. They have been featured on BBC Introducing, Alt Sounds and MTV Wrap-Up and are set to have a bright future in the music industry.

'Can't Stop Me Now' combines an addicting bass line intertwined with the awesome riff and rocking vocals to create 3 minutes and 49 seconds of pure awesome. More importantly for some, the lyrics evoke being unstoppable and alive, much like rock music itself. Its hard to remember the last time a rock group has displayed such talent with such attitude and power. 

'RockNRolla' is the song that pushes the boundaries. A high tempo. A catchy riff. Turn-it-up worthy vocals. Everything a rock song should have. It shows off the diversity of the group and honestly, I can't pick a favourite song as they are all unique in their own awesome way. 

Overall, White Powder Gold revive rock and smash almost every modern pop artist out of the water. Both these singles should be on your mp3 player or laptop by the end of today and if they are not, I will be very disappointed in you :P Their music is addicting and any rock fan should keep an eye out for them in the future as they have huge potential. 

We asked them a few questions, and here's what they said:

What inspired you to become a band?

The progression from playing to a cd to live needed the sound of a full band so we grew with our sound.

Who are your main influences?

Stooge's, Stones Roses, Sizzla, 2pac, Beastie Boys, Muddy Waters, Rage against the Machine and the Beasty boys

What is your best memory with White Powder Gold?

When we found the right musicians for the band and the sound progressed.

Where does the name come from?  

The name comes from the subatomic element of the ancient Egyptians . It was rediscovered recently , it was eaten to to heighten brain connectivity .

Days of Eclipse - Up-and-Coming artist (+ Interview)

Days of Eclipse combine experimental sounds and atmospheric music to create their own unique style of music; there really is no genre for them, they are purely Days of Eclipse. In 2010 they were voted as 'Alternative Band of the Year' in a local press and are continuing to gain recognition and popularity.
Some of the recognition Days Of Eclipse has achieved includes debuting on MTV Baltic & Coca-Cola contest Soundwave 2008 (for unsigned bands).

Their music is enchanting and very atmospheric; we found that their single 'The Rain' gradually builds up in atmosphere and progresses into deep, emphatic sounds. Their live shows seem packed full of energy; even just watching the videos (on the highest volume, of course) makes you feel like you're involved. We think that they will be recognizable because of their distinct, experimental sound and original capabilities to create such an atmospheric journey in such a small time. If you want to hear more of them, you're in luck; their latest album 'Fracture' is in late Spring 2012 and they are planning to go on an international Spring-Summer Tour. We were lucky enough to ask them a few questions and here's what they said:

1. What/who has inspired you to become a band?

At the beginning this project was an one man’s band. When my ex-metalcore act [Dark Ward] went on hiatus, I needed something to fill the emptiness. One day watching the A. Sokurov’s art-house movie “Days of Eclipse” I got the idea to transfer all the gloomy atmosphere of that movie, which also embodied my feelings of that time, to music. I think that day Days of Eclipse was born. I started composing and recording material for my new project, then a few weeks later I understood that female vocals would perfectly fit this new material. I had an idea to combine cold industrial sounds and harsh guitar riffs with the fragility and warmth of a feminine voice. Years later through many changes in the band’s line-up I finally found the perfect vocalist - Egle Naujokaityte and a team linked with mutual ideas and visions.   

2. Which artists have influenced you the most?

Everyone of us has different influences in music and arts generally. I grew up listening to alternative rock and metal bands, but my first musical love which I carried through all these years was Nine Inch Nails. I think Egle can name her influences as various art rock and post punk acts such as David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, New Order and etc. The other guys listen to a wide specter of rock music from Tool to Dir En Grey. I think the basic influence to our sound made bands that had some sort industrial feel in their music – cold mechanical sound, deep drones and noisy atmospheres.  

3. What do you do in general band session?

Anything you can imagine. From practice to generating new ideas as well as elaborating old ones. We have separate studios for rehearsing and recording, so usually we walk in the studio only when we have well elaborated ideas. 

4. What makes you different from other bands?

I think this question goes to our listeners, not to us. They can observe the whole process from the outside and then “judge”. I think that we are unable to speak about our musical identity or musical marginality. Surely I could name you a dozen of thing I think we do great, but all in all I can’t see the “whole picture” from a distance.  

5. Do you have any favourite albums?

I must admit that we are truly in love with our upcoming album. But I can name Nine Inch Nails “The Downward Spiral” and “Fragile” as one of the greatest albums I've ever heard, also I can admit that Scott Walker’s “Tilt”, Radiohead’s “Hail to the Thief” and Slipknot’s “Iowa” made a huge influence on me. Egle’s favorite albums are Japan's "Tin Drum", Beck's "Mutations", Peter Gabriel's "Us", Talking Head's "Remain in Light", PJ Harvey's "Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea" among others, as I know it.  

6. What's the best memory you've had with Days of Eclipse?

In October 2009 we took a part in alternative music festival “Sober and Free”. The idea was to show that a rock concert can happen without any drugs or alcohol. However it was an open air festival in the centre of city and it is very cold in Vilnius in late October. The backstage of this festival was a tent behind the main stage. The coffee machine wasn’t the best savior so we went to an alcohol shop on a nearby street and bought some whiskey. Coffee mixed with whiskey wasn’t the dream cocktail but it helped us not to freeze to death. At the end of the evening we took a stage drunk enough. The performance was great and Days of Eclipse got a big resonance in local press. We weren’t sober but we were so free – isn’t that the real meaning of true rock’n’roll?

I Swim With Sharks!

I Swim with Sharks have created their own Indie rock/pop style that excels in being dynamic and seamlessly catchy. They are made up of three members, Luke, Evan and Phil, from Yorkshire. This isn't just about their music. They provide the whole package with the feel and creativity of each music video or website post. They have been acclaimed to 'play with precision and effortlessness' by the Leeds Music Scene.

Their single, Build Me Up, is dynamic to say the very least. It evokes pure rock from the rock era and infectiously will have you yearning for more. We have to commend all the band members as the instrumentation and vocals together are just incredible. 

Their support already has been both impressive and thoughtful, websites and companies such as BBC Introducing, Q Radio and Kerrang! TV are some of those people and we are glad we can be another one! 

'With a string of festival appearances secured for this summer, I Swim With Sharks are steadily building a place as underground favorites for 2012 and beyond.'

iLL-iteracy - Up-and-Coming Artist

iLL-iteracy are bringing rap

 to Just Another Radio.
Only rarely, will you  find a new rap artists that are true to rap. iLL-iteracy are one of those artists. As often as the phrase is used today, iLL-iteracy are genuinely a fresh, distinctive group.  You can download their album 'The Ensembly Line' from their website and also check out their 'iLL-it beatz' that have samples which are free to use. 


Each member of iLL-iteracy have 'developed affinities for music early on in their lives' and this passion sets iLL-iteracy apart from other artists. Also, from reading their biography and listening to their music you can realise how strong each members relationships are and the amount of work that they put into their music as a group. 

'After school, each of the members would gather around a computer, a base-model plastic computer microphone, and a technologically inferior recording program just for kicks.  There was no mission in mind; no money-making scheme...  There was just music.'

  We truly appreciate the fact that they do not aim for money. When money becomes the sole purpose of doing something that requires heart, it won't work. iLL-iteracy do not follow other 'trends' because (anyone who uses Twitter will know) trends aren't permanent. Real music, however, is. 

  

        'The members of iLL-iteracy are Scott Dudley - "Chris Prythm", Kirk Dudley - "Speek Eazy", Corey English - "WiLL Spitwell", and George Trent -   "Young Observe".  Their sound is inspirational but far from ignorantly blissful and their musical arsenal ranges from upbeat anthems to thought provoking, more conscious selections.'

I believe that iLL-iteracy will get far, they've said themselves 'the motivation that pushes them harder and fuels the hunger that so many others lack'. They are aiming for what they deserve through their dedication and hard-work. We feel so privileged to support them and hope that us helping them now is just a first step for them to achieve as much as they can.

SUDDYN - Up-and-Coming Artist

SUDDYN'S Biography
Developing their piano-driven electro-rock sound into what it is today, SUDDYN stemmed from humble beginnings in Montauk, New York, growing into the international band they have become. Formed by brothers Alan (vocals, piano, synths) and Jarrett (guitar, vocals, bass) Steil, the band honed its music while touring through Ireland. Using their allure to crack the Irish music scene, the group returned to New York with 3 Top 30 hits, a devoted following, and a string of equally impressive hangovers. Blessed with panty-dropping good looks, they bring energy and presence to their shows unmatched since Genghis Khan conquered Mongolia. Incorporating a savvy knowledge of production values, SUDDYN followed their debut EP Dark Lights, with Before the City, produced by Grammy Award-winner David Kahne (Paul McCartney, Sublime). 


In 2011, trading winter jackets and pasty skin for sunglasses and tans, SUDDYN brought the show to the West Coast. Playing an intensive schedule in LA-area bars and clubs, they garnered heavy attention from KROQ and MTV. 

Continuing with their budding success they have shared the stage over the past year with the likes of Vampire Weekend; Matt and Kim; We Are Scientists and Bright Eyes. Kevin M. Thomas - Up-and-Coming Artist

KEVIN M. THOMAS

Recently added to our radio, is the up-and-coming acoustic rock artist, Kevin M. Thomas, from Washington, D.C. His musical styles are similar to the likes of Sting, Steve Perry and Bruce Dickinson.
His material has been featured in MTV/Spike TV Series, "10 Things Every Guy Should Experience", in addition to International TV Film series such as, "Distant Shores", "Studio 54", "Cyber Seduction", 
"Vinegar Hill" as well as with Microsoft Internet and Ringback Tones. 

His voice has been likened to Steve Perry of Journey.  His original music is deep and emotional.  Outside of SL, Kevin has written Classical Compositions in his Chamber Music Collection and his Piano Collection.  In RL, Kevin's day job has him doing investigative work which lends to his amazing insight into Corporate America and of course lends a hand to his lyrical genius.  Kevin's music has been used on MTV and several overseas television and radio shows.
